B of the Bang (Day) 2002

Edmund Sumner
£250.00

'B of the Bang' was a sculpture by Thomas Heatherwick next to the City of Manchester Stadium in Manchester, England, United Kingdom, commissioned to mark the 2002 Commonwealth Games.

The sculpture took its name from a quotation of British Sprinter Linford Christie  in which he said that he started his races not merely at the "bang" of the starting Pistol  but at "the B of the Bang".

Shot late afternoon in 2002 for the studio against a challenging deadline the weather was moody but I’d been tracking a break in cloud and after a two hour wait I had five mins of sharp autumnal light. This image shot on large format colour transparency 5/4 , 110mm Sinar F2
