The above image is entitled TOKYO Gas 2003 and from a Series of municipal / human landscapes around japan in 2002/2003 . This is one of my favourite pieces of work, and the result of a fascination with municipal landscapes that seemed totally Alien / oppressive but on closer examination were anything but . This scene was taken early one Sunday morning and captures family playing seemingly unaware of the visual irony of scale . With a kid in a disposable paper play suit new mothers in semi uniforms and the bikes lined up it’s a quintessentially Japanese scene
